To drive economic growth and prosperity through collaboration and engagement with regional businesses by delivering a first class international trade support service on behalf of our stakeholders

West Midlands International Trade LLP (WMIT) is a joint initiative between the six Chambers of Commerce in the West Midlands.

Incorporated in 2006 as a Limited Liability Partnership West Midlands International Trade LLP, is a unique special purpose entity providing a single point of contact and contracting for the services of, The Department for International Trade (DIT) and The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) on behalf of the six Chambers in the West Midlands region.

Since 2006 we have been the delivery partner for the Department for International Trade (DIT), - previously UKTI, - in the West Midlands, our aim is effective contract performance and delivery ensuring that the region contributes to the government’s Export Strategy, in raising UK exports as a share of GDP from 30% to 35%

Our objective in delivering for DIT is to maximise the volume and value of exports for companies of all sizes in the region.  Our international trade services are delivered via 37 International Trade Advisers based in 6 dispersed teams, each located within a regional Chamber of Commerce ensuring local connectivity with our target businesses in all sectors

As DIT’s regional point of delivery, we are responsible for implementing its policy, programme delivery and managing and implementing any department-led changes within the region

Along with the East Midlands delivery partner we have joint responsibility for Midlands Engine Trade promotion activity.

We also work with the six West Midlands Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and the West Midlands Combined Authority, as well as local authorities on their export propositions.

With the firmly established infrastructure of our six local Chambers and their experienced staff, we can provide a truly exclusive proposition in terms of our ability to respond quickly, to keep overheads low and to effectively access all or targeted segments of the 250,000 West Midlands businesses.

By offering a single regional point of contact, a consistent local approach to delivery and a huge market reach WMIT is the ideal model for the delivery of dependable specialist regional business support at a local level.

By securing additional ERDF funding WMIT has broadend and enhanced the range of international trade support available to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the West Midlands.

The ERDF Enhanced Export Growth Project (EEGP) provides support focused on micro and small none and novice exporting businesses, providing additional activities that seeks to encourage SMEs to consider and explore export opportunities and to access a range of support available to help them succeed.

The EEGP specifically enables WMIT to work directly with the region’s six Growth Hubs providing knowledge transfer and capacity building of growth hub staff,  supporting growth hubs to enable effective handling of lower level SME export enquiries, ensuring that non-export ready businesses are meaningfully supported through a range of triage activities
